Our services · Meal preparation
Open the fridge. That is usually where families find out first.
Milk a month past date. The same casserole you brought three weeks ago, untouched. Nothing but crackers and ice cream. Weight coming off a parent who insists they are eating fine.
Why cooking stops
Rarely one reason. Standing at a stove gets hard. Taste and smell fade, so nothing is appealing. Getting the shopping home is a production. And after fifty years of cooking for a family, cooking for one person feels pointless — which is the one nobody says out loud.
Poor nutrition then accelerates everything else: less energy, weaker legs, more falls, slower recovery, lower mood. It is one of the quietest and most fixable declines there is.
What we do
- Shopping — with them or for them, working to a list and a budget
- Cooking — proper meals, made in their kitchen, to their taste
- Batch preparation — portions covered and labelled in the fridge for the days we are not there
- Working around a prescribed diet — low sodium, diabetic-friendly, soft foods, whatever the doctor has set out
- Clearing out — the quiet job of getting expired food out of the fridge without a fuss
- Eating together — because most people eat better with company than alone
We follow the diet a doctor or dietitian has set. We do not design one — that is not our role, and anyone who tells you otherwise is overstepping.
Their food, not ours
An eighty-year-old does not want a stranger’s cooking. They want what they have always eaten, made the way they have always made it.
So we ask. What did you cook on Sundays? How does your mother’s recipe go? Getting that right is often the moment a caregiver stops being a stranger in the kitchen and starts being welcome in it.
Arranging it
Meal preparation sits inside homemaker and companion hours rather than being billed separately. Most families combine it with light housekeeping and the weekly shop — one visit, several jobs.
Let’s start with a conversation
Real meals, cooked in their kitchen, eaten in company. The in-home assessment is free, with no obligation.
